What is ECAT

ECAT Stands for Engineering College Admission Test, and it is conducted by the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore. The test is accepted across all the campuses of UET Lahore and UET Taxila and other all the UETs of Province of Punjab. The ECAT was started in 1998 in order to eradicate the cheating and Sifarish Culture for getting admission in different public sector universities of Punjab. Now every year thousands of students apply for ECAT to get admission in UETs and the admissions are granted purely on the basis of merit. A few other private and public sector universities and colleges accept this same test for admission in their programs as well.

Note: ECAT is only for admission in Undergraduate Programs of the University and its affiliated colleges.

What is the Test Pattern?

The Test is MCQs based it contains a variety of MCQs from all the science subjects. The test is made conceptual in order to test the quality of learning of the students and to filter out the students which sound concepts.

The test consists of four sections (4). The Test Pattern is given below:

Section 1: English 10 MCQs ( 40 Marks)
Section 2: Physics 30 MCQs ( 120 Marks)
Section 3: Chemistry/Computer 30 MCQs ( 120 Marks) (Computer is for ICS Students)
Section 2: Mathematics 30 MCQs ( 120 Marks)

Total MCQs= 100 MCQs

Total Marks= 400 Marks
Total Time Given: 180 Minutes or 3 Hours

What is Negative Marking?

Negative Marking means the deduction of marks in case if any answer of an MCQ is Wrong.
In ECAT, the following checking scheme is used:

Correct Answer:  4 Marks
Wrong Answer: -1 Mark
Un Attempted Answer: 00 Marks 

For example, if you attempt 5 questions and your answers are as follows:

Correct Answers: 3
Wrong Answers: 2 

Your marks will be 3x4=12 marks for correct answers and 2x-1 =-2 for incorrect answers. So you will get total marks 12-2=10 marks. 

Merit Calculation Formula:

The aggregate is calculated by using the formula given below:

FSc. Marks = 70%
Entry Test Marks = 30%

Dates to Remember:

The Registrations for ECAT generally starts in June of every year and test is conducted in Mid of July. The schedule may vary slightly due to unforeseen circumstances. 

ECAT is Paper Based or Computer Based?

The ECAT test is conducted on a single day in many cities of Punjab and around 40,000+ students appear in the test every year. Due to a large number of candidates and test to be conducted on a single day. The ECAT test is Paper Based.

Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Give The Test (ECAT)?

The following students are eligible to appear in ECAT for admission against the seats in University of Engineering and Technology and its campuses as well as the affiliated institutes:

1. Fsc Pre-Engineering or Equivalent
2. FSc. Pre-Medical or Equivalent
3. BSc. (Intermediate Pre-Engineering with 1st Division)
4. ICS with Computer, Mathematics, and Physics OR Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics
5. DAE, B.Tech or Equivalent (List of Programs offered is available on UET Website and later in this article)
6. Punjab Domicile Holder

ECAT by UET Lahore is only for Students of Punjab i.e; those having domicile of Punjab.

Students of other provinces can apply for UET of their respective Province. The KPK Domicile Holder can apply for UET Peshawar Test (ETEA) to get admission in UETs.

Documents Required for Admission

The documents required for admission along with the application form are given below, the students must prepare these documents in advance to avoid any inconvenience.

1.  Domicile Certificate.
2. Computerized National Identity Card or Computerized B-Form issued by NADRA.
3. Certificate, Diploma, Degree or Detailed Marks Certificates of all the examinations on the basis of which admission is sought that is, H.S.S.C., Diploma of Associate Engineer (DAE), B.Sc., B.Tech. (Pass).
4. Six (6) passport size recent photographs.
5. Applicants having equivalent foreign qualifications (e.g. O/A-levels) must obtain Equivalence Certificate from I.B.C.C. (Inter Board Committee of Chairmen) offices located in major cities of Pakistan.
6. If you are applying against reserved seats for the Children of Overseas Pakistanis (Category S & SI), you are required to submit following additional documents. Orphans can also apply against these reserved seats if they are sponsored by their (i) Real brother; (ii) Real maternal uncle (Mamoo); Or (iii) Real paternal uncle (Chacha, Taya) working abroad:
   a) Duly filled Form-VIII of applicant’s guardian and a photocopy of valid Resident Visa/Residence Permit verified/attested by the Pakistani Embassy in the respective foreign country.Form-VIII can be downloaded from UET websites.

         b) Sponsored orphans must also submit the following documents: (i) Father’s death certificate Issued byNADRA; (ii) Proof of relationship with the guardian in the form of CNIC of all family members and NADRA Family Registration Certificate (FRC) highlighting the Family Tree structure of the applicant; (iii) Copy of Nikahnama in case the guardian is the maternal uncle (Mamoo) of the applicant.

Note: Scanned/faxed copies of certificates and visa/ residence permit shall not be entertained.
